W/B Year 2 24th September

Date: 2nd Oct 2018 @ 3:38pm

Dear Parents,

What a fantastic first couple of weeks we have had in year 2! We hope you have all settled into you new Year 2 classes and are enjoying being back at school.

This term, we a trialing using class blogs to keep parents more informed with whats going on in our classrooms. We would love for you to get involved by commenting below, and as ever, we look forward to hearing your feedback. smiley

In English, we have been reading the book ‘The tale of Peter Rabbit'. We started our topic by going on a rabbit hunt around the playground we then wrote letters to Mrs Rabbit telling her where we found her naughty son! The children are really enjoying 'The tale of Peter Rabbit' and have recited the story using lots of actions. Throughout the next week, we will start to plan our own versions of a similar story and will be changing the characters. Watch this space!

In Maths last week we continued to focus on place value. We partitioned numbers up to 100 into tens and ones using place value cards, dienes and arrow cards and compared these numbers using the ‘greater than’, ‘less than’ and ‘equals to’ signs. The children have become more confident at comparing and ordering numbers by looking at the ‘tens’ column. Below is a link to two games which you could play at home to support your child’s learning.

During RE, we continued to hear about how Abraham was chosen by God and how he put his trust in Him. We created beautiful drawings of Abraham and we also learnt a song called ‘Father Abraham’.

Finally, in Science we learnt about animals’ basic needs and different animals life cycles. We found out that all animals need food, shelter, air and water to survive and created our own posters.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Macmillan coffee morning on Friday, it was lovely to meet everyone and it was great to see so many people supporting such a great cause.

Many Thanks,

The Year 2 team
