Year 2, Blog post 2

Date: 16th Oct 2018 @ 10:12pm

Dear Parents,

During English this week, the children wrote their own versions of a warning tale with a similar plot to  ‘The tale of Peter Rabbit.’ After marking the children’s stories, we were very impressed with the children’s imaginations, they all worked really hard and their efforts definitely paid off! We had stories about naughty pigs stealing vegetables and mischievous fish being turned into fish fingers! As you can imagine, it was a lovely piece of work to mark.

In Maths, we moved onto unit 2 of Power Math’s, which is ‘Addition and Subtraction’. In this unit, the children will use related number facts, compare number sentences, make number bonds to 100, add and subtract ones and tens, add a 2-digit and a 1-digit number and finally subtract a 1-digit number from a 2-digit number. As you can see, we have a busy few weeks ahead of us!

This week during our lessons on ‘Making number bonds to 100’ we noticed that a few children had forgotten their number bonds to 10, so found it fairly challenging. Here are a few games and songs which you could play at home to help your child to recall their number bonds quickly! https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lD9tjBUiXs0

In Science the children conducted a scientific enquiry “Do children get faster as they grow older?”. All of the children loved taking part and all recorded their results. Ask them what we discovered!

Parent’s consultation booking is now live, if you haven’t already, please book your slot via the ‘Parents’ section of the website.

Finally, just a reminder that it is school photographs on Wednesday 17th October. :D

We look forward to another busy week!
