Year 3 Class 10 Newsletter 15th January 2018

Date: 14th Jan 2018 @ 8:27am

Dear Parents,

What a great first week back in school.  The children were rested and ready for learning - they've been working so hard this week.

We began the week looking at different sentence types and learning about the importance of checking every sentence makes perfect sense.  We need to write slightly differently than how we talk.  The children then went on to use dictionaries to look up definitions of words they didn't understand from The Land of Counterpane, a poem by Robert Louis Stevenson.  We'll be writing more poetry this week and performing some of it for our class.

In Computing we have started to think about how to stay safe online and we plan on designing and creating a video guide about staying safe using the school iPads.  Stay tuned for these videos!

Our maths lessons this week concentrated on division. We calculated using number lines and realised how we can use our multiplcation skills to help solve the problems.  This week we will focus on both multiplication and division and using these skills to solve problems.

During RE we started to learn about Reconciliation and discussed when we have made poor decisions and how we said sorry and seeked forgiveness.  The children have written a short diary extract describing the time these things went wrong.

On Wednesday we choreographed our own gymnastics routine and we'll be fine tuning it this week, ready for a performance.  We used iPads to film each other and look at ways we can improve.  The children used them very effectivley to improve.

Please ensure that the children have their full PE kit in school each week.

'How do you survive on a desert island?'  This is the question we discussed as a class this week during Science.  We decided that we need food, water and shelter - oh and a way to signal for help!  We'll be learning more about types of food groups and staying healthy this week.  The children will be discussing about how to make healthy choices with their food.

Our class assembly will be on Friday 26th January.  Please come along and see what the children have been learning.  We start around 9.15am.

Thank you for your continued support,

Mr Chris Waterworth
