Year 3 Class 10 Newsletter 5th March 2018

Date: 1st Mar 2018 @ 1:44pm

Dear Parents,

What a really cold week we've all had. The children have braved 'The Beast From The East' with a smile on their faces.

Thank you to you all for helping the children with their wonderful costumes for World Book Day and I hope you all enjoyed your bookmarks.  The children are really keen to see you all reading and would love for you to use them at home.

During English this week we have started the story of Escape to Pompeii. The children have loved the story and are beginning to learn it off by heart - this will help them when they come to write.  They will be writing a newspaper article on the eruption from the point of view of the boats heading away.  This week we will look at features of newspaper reports and then learn how to use them.

We continue to learn about length in maths and how we can measure the perimeter of things.  The children will then solve problems using these skills. You can help at home by getting the children to measure things around the home in centimetres and millimetres.

Please keep practising those times tables and spellings at home - it's really making a difference.  Homework will change next week from comprehension and maths, to SPAG (Spelling and Grammar) and maths.  A new book will come home.

During RE we learned all about The Last Supper and how it is a very similar experience to when we celebrate Mass. The children produced some stunning art work based on the image we looked at.  This week the children will be understanding about what happens at the start of Mass and why we need to say we are sorry.

The children completed their first page of their new topic this week when they learn all about The Celts before the Romans arrived.  We will be looking in more detail at how the Romans spread across Europe next week.

Thank you to everyone who sent in an 'outdoor' PE kit this week.  Although we've not been able to go outside for PE this week, we will be doing in the coming weeks.  Could you please send in some tracksuit bottoms and warm jacket or hoodie.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you for your continued support,

Mr Chris Waterworth
