Year 3 Class 11 Newsletter 15th October 2018

Date: 14th Oct 2018 @ 11:40am

Dear Parents,

It's been a great week in Class 11 this week and we've really got our hands dirty!

The children really enjoyed investigating different soils that we found around school this week and learned all about how soil is made.  They used the samples to identify different features of it and then name them.  We thought about which soil would be good for growing plants and which wouldn't be.  This week we'll learn about different fossils and a famous scientist - Mary Anning.

During Maths this week the children learned about adding and subtracting 100s.  We used practical methods to help us and then answered the questions confidently.  Most children managed to solve problems and explain how they solved the problem.  This week we will look at what happens to 3 digit numbers when we add ones to them.  There will be plenty of problem solving too!

The children finished writing their notes for their volcano books and wrote the opening to grab the attention of the reader.  This week we'll learn about sub headings and how to organise our writing to help the reader.  Eventually we'll publish our writing for our topic books.

During RE the children learned about Baptismal Promises and write their own promises to live by each day.  It was a lovely session with the children really thinking about what promises they know they need to stick and making some new ones too.

Thank you for helping with homework this week.  It's really pleasing to have so many children bring me their homework early and seem so proud of it.  The storm seemed to get our books wet this week - how rude!  Hopefully they'll dry out, but if not, come and see me.

I was very impressed with the children's effort and understanding with their spellings this week!  All the children's scores were up on last week and I can see when I was marking them that they're learning them as the spelling rule is generally correct.  Keep up the good work.

The children have changed times tables this week after another successful certificate week in our class.  We will now be learning our 3's, 4's, and 8's.  Please keep using Hit the Button and - they are very useful to learn fluency.

Please make sure you have booked your parents' evening appointments online.  It'll be lovely to meet you all to talk about your children's learning so far this year.  If you're having issues with booking a time, please give the office a call and they can help

The children are enjoying their guitar lessons each Monday and now know three songs.  There will be a parent performance coming soon - I'll let you know the date, when I do.

Our class assembly is approaching.  We will be sharing our learning on Friday 9th November at 9.10am.  Please come and support us.

Thank you for your continued support,

Mr Chris Waterworth
