Year 3 Class 11 Newsletter 17th September 2018

Date: 15th Sep 2018 @ 8:27am

Dear Parents,

This was our first full week back at school in Year 3 and the children have been brilliant - I'm so proud!#

During RE we learned all about The Church Family and where we fit in.  Tuesday was a great day to do this as The Bishop was actually at our school to bless the new classrooms.  The children were very excited to see him when he walked passed our classroom.  One person in our class was lucky to meet hum too!

During English we learned all about expanded noun phrases and how we can use them in our writing to create some super descriptions.  We want everyone to be able to picture what we are imaging in our heads.  The children then had the opportunity to write a short description of Mrs Cole's dungeon!  This week we'll be planning our own chapter and beginning to write and publish it!

In Maths this week we continued to learn all about place value and we have been partitioning numbers to 1000!  This is a crucial skill that the children need to learn.  We have also improved our times tables this week and been practising our 2, 3 and 4 tables - please help the children at home with these.

The children enjoyed learning all about Volcanoes and Rocks this week.  They learned about different types of rocks and investigated their properties.  The children showed good observation skills to do this and made some super sketches too.

We had a great time in PE this week when we played the balloon balance game this week.  Can you balance on one leg, whilst keeping a balloon in the air whilst trying to knock an opponent's balloon to the ground?  It's a great game!  There is more to come next week!

The children have done a great job learning their spelling this week.  Please make sure that the children don't just learn to spell the word, they need to learn what the word means and to use it in a sentence.  The words may seem easy as the spellings are grouped into word families, but please make sure you're talking with your child about word context.

We had a great afternoon on Thursday when we unwrapped hundreds of new books from Winsford library and sorted out the ones we would like to read the most in the classroom.  We all got a little excited and chose some stunning new books.  Please encourage your children to read as much as possible at home, in the car, in the supermarket, in the street....basically, anywhere!

Thank you for your continued support,

Mr Chris Waterworth
