Year 3 Class 11 Newsletter 22nd October 2018

Date: 21st Oct 2018 @ 3:10pm

Dear Parents,

We are in our last week of the half term - who can believe it?  Where has the time gone?

We enjoyed writing our non-chronological reports this week in English and the children will be publishing them this week for their topic books.  We have really enjoyed learning all about Volcanoes and how they form.  We even had time to look at Mount Vesuvius and the city of Pompeii.  We'll learn more about that later in the year.

The children have really impressed me with their pace of learning this week during mathematics. We managed to tackle some challenging problem solving activities and they proved just how much they've learned.  We'll be continuing to learn about using number bonds to add three digit numbers this week.

During RE we completed our assessment page and I was impressed with what the children had learned about Baptism.  After half term we start to learn all about Mary, Mother of God.  It's a wonderful learning journey that takes us all the way up to Christmas.

This week the children will be building their own Volcanoes which we plan on erupting on Friday.  If you have any spare newspapers or small bottles, please can you send them into school this week?

I was very impressed with the children's efforts with times tables this week, with vast majority of children making progress. Please keep this up over half term if you can.  A few simple recall questions in the car, the supermarket, or after reading can make all the difference,

There won't be any homework over half term!  The only thing I will challenge the children to do is to read a book and write in their reading records.  There will be house points for the children who can complete this!

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone on Wednesday or Thursday at Parents' Evening.  If you haven't already booked an appointment, then please do so via our school website.

Have a wonderful half term and please keep an eye on the website, as I will be updating the webpage with our new topic all about The Stone Age!

Thank you for your continued support,

Mr Chris Waterworth
