Year 3 Class 11 Newsletter 3rd December 2018

Date: 2nd Dec 2018 @ 5:37pm

Dear Parents,

We're into December!  How did that happen?  Where did the year go?

This week we spent time thinking about others during Collective Worship and during our RE lessons on Advent.  The children wrote some beautiful advent promises and were very proud of what they have written.  I know they'll make sure they keep the promises they made between themselves and God.

During English this week the children began writing their own Stone Age story based on Stone Age Boy.  They wrote about their time spent in the Stone Age and we will be writing our exciting ending this week.  The children are looking forward to sharing them with each other later this week.

In Maths this week we have looked at exchanging when adding and subtracting. The children have impressed me and are looking forward to the extra problem solving session we have this week before moving onto multiplication and division.  Please spend some time practising how to add and subtract using the compact method.

During Science this week the children have been learning about forces and understanding that force is needed to move and stop things.  This week we will start learning about magnets. The children will be testing the strength of magnets and start to understand the poles of them.

A big well done to the four children who represented our school at the indoor athletics tournament on Thursday.  They were an absolute credit to the school and were only two points away from winning the competition!  We're already looking forward to Town Sports in the summer.

I'm sure you've seen your child using Times Tables Rock Stars this week!  It's a complete success and the children are so proud of their scores this week.  Please let the children download this FREE app that will work on any device with an internet connection.  The statistics are already amazing with some children really making huge progress!

Thank you, as always, for helping out with homework and reading.  Reading with your children and letting them see you read develops good habits and will certainly benefit your children.  Please, please, please read as much as you can with them!

We're coming up to one of our busiest periods of the year and of course we're all excited.  We've got our Christmas performance on Tuesday 18th December at 9.15am.  Please come along and join us.  We have our guitar concert for parents of Class 11 on Monday 10th December at 9.15am too - please come along and rock with us!

Thank you for your continued support,

Mr Chris Waterworth
