Year 3 Class 11 Newsletter 7th December 2019

Date: 2nd Jan 2019 @ 8:04am

Dear Parents,

Welcome back after the Christmas break.  I hope you all had a wonderful time together and the children are ready for their next learning adventure.

This half term we will continue travelling back in time to learn about our Roman history. The children will learn about life was like in Roman times, what they ate and all about the Roman invasion of Europe.  We will be studying the city of Chester later in the term and we are all looking forward to our visit to the Roman city - more details to come.

During our English we will continue our Roman theme by starting to write a newspaper report based on the book Escape from Pompeii.  The children will learn to retell the story and enjoy pretending to actually be there.  We will try to use Green Screen technology to actually put the children in the city of Pompeii when they are reporting.  Later in the term we will look at the book The Firework Makers Daughter and use this to write some stories.

During Maths this term we will be continuing our Power Maths journey on Multiplication and Division.  The children will need to keep learning their tables, so please make sure they are getting on Times Tables Rock Stars!  We ended 2018 as the only unbeaten class in the whole school, so let's see if we can keep our title this term too.  Later in the term we will move onto studying money and statistics.

During RE we will begin to learn all about Reconciliation.  The children will learn all about why saying sorry and asking for forgiveness helps us to better Christians.  The children will also be running their own collective worships again this term for the whole class to take part in.

PE will be on a Friday afternoon - please ensure the children have the correct PE kit in school at all times.  We will be improving our gymnastics skills and learning a routine that we will hopefully perform to other classes.

Homework will come home on Friday's and will need to be completed by the following Wednesday - please look inside the covers to see which pages you need to complete with your children.  There will also be spellings to learn each week - these will come home on a Monday and will be tested on a Friday.

Please, please, please encourage your children to read each night and leave a comment in their reading diaries - these will be checked each week.  They will need these books every day, as the children read every day in class.

There is so much more to tell you, but I will write a short newsletter each week to keep you up to date.

If you have any questions, please get in touch,

Mr Chris Waterworth
