Class 12 Year 3 2019 - 2020

Mrs Bevington

 Class 12

Hello and welcome to Class 12’s web page for Spring 2. It is a pleasure to be back at St Mary’s and I enjoyed meeting you all at the Parent’s Evenings last half term.

This half term we will continue travelling back in time to learn about our Roman history. The children will learn about life was like in Roman times, what they ate and all about the Roman invasion of Europe.  We will be studying the city of Chester later in the term and we are all looking forward to our visit to the Roman city.

During our English we will continue our Roman theme by writing a recount of our trip to Chester and a diary entry from the point of view of a Roman Soldier. This will allow the children to use the facts that they have gained from our trip to Chester to enhance their writing and make it a more personal, exciting and meaningful experience.

During Maths we will continue working through our Power Maths books focusing on money in which children convert between pounds and pence and move on to solve addition and subtraction problems relating to money. We will also cover a statistics unit which exposes children to a range of ways in which information and data can be presented and interpreted. The children will need to keep learning their tables, so please make sure they are getting on Times Tables Rock Stars!

RE will be all about Celebrating the Mass and all the traditions and sacraments involved in this sacred blessing.  The children will learn about the different parts of the mass and why these are important to Catholics.  They will be running their own collective worships once a week for the whole class to take part in.  Also, during this half term we will be celebrating Easter, one of the most important times in the Christian calendar.

Our Science topic is ‘All About our Bodies’ and we will be learning about muscles and skeletons and how they help us to move and how we can take good care of them.

PE will be on a Wednesday afternoon - please ensure the children have the correct PE kit in school at all times.  We will be improving our cognitive skills through sport and following Unit 3 of our Real PE scheme of work which involves playing games that improve agility and hand - eye co-ordination.

Homework will come home on Friday's and should be completed by the following Wednesday - please look inside the covers to see which pages are to be completed with your children.  There will also be spellings to learn each week - these will come home on a Monday and will be tested on a Friday.

Please actively encourage your children to read each night and leave a comment in their reading diaries - these will be checked each week.  They will need these reading books and diaries in school every day as they are used in class regularly.
