Class 12 Year 3 2019 - 2020

Mrs Bevington

Class 12

Hello and welcome back to everyone.  I'm Mrs Bevington and I'm the class teacher in Year 3, Class 12.  I am really excited to be back at work after a lengthy absence and I am ready and raring to go.  I really enjoyed meeting the children on moving up morning and can’t wait to get to know them all better.

This half term we will be learning all about earthquakes and volcanoes.  We will learn how they are formed, where they are created and the impact they have on our world.  During this time we will also focus on rocks, soils and fossils and how they are created.  We'll also learn about Mary Anning and her amazing work discovering fossils.

During English we will be starting with one of my favourite books - Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. This book has captured the imagination of every child I've had the pleasure to read it to and I can remember my teacher reading it to me way, way back in the day. I loved it.  We'll be looking at the characters, inventing chocolate bars, creating our own 'naughty' child and writing our very own lost chapter.

During our first unit of maths we will build on the skills the children have learned in Year 2 around Place Value, Reading numbers to 1000 and what happens to a number when we add 100 to it.

We will also be focussing very hard on timestables and getting the children accurate and fast at answering these. Please practise at home using these FREE websites to help Hit the button and  Your child has been given a log in for Times Table Rockstars too.  Their login details have been sent home in a letter and also stuck into their reading diary. This program is free, available on the children's tablets, phones and computers.  It is an amazing learning tool and one the children will love.

PE will be on a Wednesday afternoon - please ensure the children have the correct PE kit in school at all times.  We will start our Real PE adventure focussing on the important skills to make us athletes.

Homework will come home on Mondays and will need to be completed by the Friday of the same week OR the following Monday - please look inside the covers to see which pages you need to complete with your children.  There will also be spellings to learn each week - these will come home on a Monday and will be tested on a Friday.

Please, please, please encourage your children to read each night either to you or another family member and leave a comment in their reading diaries - these will be checked each week.  The children will receive house points for reading three times in a row at home. They will also need these books EVERY DAY, as the children read in class.

If you have any questions which haven’t been answered here, please get in touch,
