Class 12 Year 3 2019 - 2020

Mrs Bevington

Class 12

Hi everyone!  I hope you all had a relaxing half term and are ready for the run up to Christmas! The weather has a distinctly autumnal feel to it and warm coats are going to be essential.

During this half term we will be exploring the history of The Stone Age.  The children will be travelling back through time to explore where our first tools came from, how people lived and create their very own cave painting! They will be baking in order to develop their food preparation skills.  In our Science lessons we will learn about Magnets and Forces and how we use them in our every day lives. During PE we will create a gymnastics routine with jumps, rolls and balances.  In Computing the children will learn about online safety and how to use email safely. They will know how to spot a spam email and what to do with it. They will continue their professional guitar tuition and look forward to performing for you near the end of the half term. During PSHE sessions the children will learn how to recognise achievements, identify strengths and set goals for the future.  In French they will continue with their topic ‘Moi!’ and will learn greetings, say how they are feeling and know how to say their age in French.

Our English will start with writing a non-chronological report on plastic pollution.  This will build on our learning from One World Week which the children were very interested in. They will learn the style, organisational structures and type of language needed to write a report and get to role play David Attenborough!

As it nears Christmas, we will be taking a cautious trip through the back of a wardrobe and venturing into the land of Narnia. We’ll build on the skills learned earlier in the year and really begin to choose language carefully to bring Narnia to life! The children will complete their addition and subtraction work and learn how to use the compact methods of calculation, including exchanging.  We will explore number patterns and develop our problem solving skills using these new skills. We will then begin to learn how to multiply and divide numbers.  Throughout this topic the children will develop their 3, 4 and 8 times-tables and find remainders to calculations. Once again, we will be focussing very hard on timestables and getting the children accurate and fast at answering these. Please practise at home using these FREE websites to help Hit the button and Your child has been given a log in for Times Table Rock Stars too.  Their login details have been sent home in a letter and also stuck into their reading diary. If these need replacing, please let me know. This program is free, available on the children's tablets, phones and computers.  It is an amazing learning tool and one the children love.

Our RE topic is Mary, Mother of God which is one of my favourites as it develops the children’s knowledge and understanding of the Annunciation and the role and importance of Mary in our Catholic faith.  Following on from this the children will learn reasons for the actions and symbols of Advent and Christmas and they will also learn the meaning and origin of the ‘Hail Mary.’

Homework will continue as it started and I am very impressed by the way the children have embraced this part of their learning. Keep it up!

So there we are, all set for a busy half term.

If you do have any questions which haven’t been answered here, please get in touch.
