Class 20 Year 6 2019 - 2020

Mrs MacPherson

Year 6 Home learning materials are now available for you to access from this class page. I have put together files with reading, writing and Maths activities for you to access from home. See the links below. There are also web page links and plenty of other creative ideas to access whilst at home. I will update resources over time.

Welcome back to school! We hope that you have had a wonderful break and are now refreshed, revitalised and ready to try your very best in the run up to the SATs in May.

In English we will be covering the genres of narrative, letter writing and arguments. We will revisit some of the genres covered earlier in Year 6 and create pieces which build upon our skills and knowledge developed throughout the year.

Spelling, punctuation and grammar are still areas of focus and we will be teaching the skills that the children need to be able to use to support their writing and the SATs in May during regular revision sessions throughout the term.

This half-term we will continue to work on rapid recall of expected maths facts: both addition/subtraction and multiplication/division. We will practise our Arithmetic skills regularly and become more familiar with the style of questions which may appear in the SAT test. As part of our revision programme, we will revisit prior learning to ensure that the children are confident in their understanding.

Our key areas of focus within the Power Maths scheme of work will include:

  • Algebra
  • Area and perimeter
  • Statistics
  • Geometry

R.E - Jesus the Messiah

This topic gives the children a deepening understanding of Jesus and allows them to reflect on what they believe about their faith. They will understand that Jesus is the Messiah and will learn about the final journey that Jesus made to Jerusalem.  In addition to this, they will know about, and reflect upon the events of Holy Week and will deepen their understanding of the Resurrection.

In Science we will be contining to learn about light.  We will learn about sources of light, paths of light and shadows.  We will also begin to learn about electricity and learn how to build circuits including buzzers and switches.

In history we will be finishing our work on WWII,  we will look at the key turning points during the war and make links between events and changes; giving reasons for them and explaining the result.

As always, thank you for your continued level of support. If you require any further information, including important calendar dates, then please refer to the curriculum map which can be downloaded directly from this page.

I very much look forward to enjoying another exciting half-term with you all!

Mrs MacPherson.
