Class 20 Year 6 2018 - 2019

Mrs MacPherson

Welcome to Class 20's page! smiley

Welcome Back!  We hope that you have had a relaxing Easter break and are feeling refreshed and prepared for your SATs tests this half-term. We are extremely proud of everything that you have achieved so far this year - you are all amazing!

English

This half term we will continue to prepare for the upcoming SPaG test with revision sessions which will focus on both grammar terms as well as practising test technique.

We will also be building upon our narrative writing skills using the novel 'Goodnight Mr Tom' as a stimulus and will integrate dialogue within our writing in order to advance action and to portray character.

Maths

Our maths work this term will continue to be centred on our new scheme ‘Power Maths’. Our topics this term will include statistics and problem solving where we will apply our Maths skills from a number of areas.

As we approach the SATs tests, we will continue to practise our arithmetic and reasoning skills through revision sessions where we will revisit topics covered throughout the year.

R.E The Transforming Spirit

In this topic the children will learn that the apostles of Jesus were ordinary people who answered the call to follow Jesus. They will reflect on their own calling to be a follower of Jesus. They will know how the apostles changed when they received the Holy Spirit at Pentecost and reflect on how they can be changed. The children will know something about how the early Christian community lived and learn that the life of the first apostles was not easy.

Topic

We will continue with our World War 2 topic this half term, looking closely at how propaganda was used during the war to deliver messages to the people of the country. We will discuss the influence that these messages may have had on people during war time and will use real propaganda posters to influence our own designs.

If you require any more information in relation to our learning this half term then please refer to the 'Curriculum Map' which is attached as a link within this page.

As always, thank you for your continued level of support. If you require any further information, including important calendar dates, then please refer to the curriculum map which can be downloaded directly from this page.

Good luck Year 6 - we can do this!

Mrs MacPherson.
