Class 6 Year 1 2016 - 2017

Miss Bond

Welcome back Class 6 to our final half term of the year!

We begin the half term with One World Week. Class 6 and all of Year 1 will be learning about France and will taste food, learn songs and vocabulary and create artwork in the style of Henri Roussea. This half term, we will also continue with our topic 'Changes'. We will be looking at maps of the UK and locating where we live. We will learn how to use an atlas and a globe. We will continue to look at weather both in the UK and around the world.

Our RE topic is Miracles. We will be learning about the role of miracles in the life of Jesus. The children will learn that Jesus had the power to perform miracles and that he performed miracles to show his love and care for others. We will hear the stories of the Calming of the Storm, the healing of the paralysed and blind man. We will reflect on the message of the miracle stories and on how they act towards others.

In English we will be reading books by Eric Carle and we will create a collage for each season in the style of Eric Carle based on the story of 'The Tiny Little Seed'.

In maths we will be covering addition, subtraction and multiplictation and will try to use what we know to solve problems. We will also learn about position and direction; including whole, quarter an half turns.

The updated Class 6 curriculum map is available on the website, which will give further information on all of the above.

Please continue to enjoy reading and sharing a book a home. We value your comments in your child's reading diaries, we love to hear how they are developing in their reading.

We will be completing our Phonics screening tests the week begining the 12th of June so please practise all the sounds we have learnt over this year together at home.

Thank you again for your hard work and continued support.

We look forward to another exciting final term in Class 6.
