Welcome to Class 6 Home page! 

Happy New Year! We hope that you have all had a happy and restful Christmas break. We are looking forward to another exciting half term in Class 6. 

In English, we will be reading some traditional tales starting with The Little Red Hen. We will explore this as part of our Talk 4 writing unit. We will try to expand our sentences by using 'and' and 'but' in them. We will check our writing for capital letters and punctuation marks. We will continue to learn to write using the cursive style.

In Maths, we will learn to count to at least 50, forwards and backwards, beginning with 0 or 1, or from any given number. This will build on our previous learning of numbers to 20. We will learn about grouping in 10s. We will develop our understanding of addition and subtraction by using our knowledge of counting on and number lines to aid. We will develop our understanding of number pairs to 10 by learning our number pairs to 20.

Our RE topic is 'Families and Celebrations'. We will learn that we all belong to a family and how we love and care for each other. We will learn how Jesus belonged to a family and know what it means to belong to our church family. We will find out what happens at a Baptism.

We will be moving onto a brand new topic called 'Who Lives There?'. Our topic work throughout this half term will be learning about the artist Lowry and piant pictures in his style. We will also learn about maps of our area and how to draw a map with a key. In science, we will move onto a new unit of materials. We will find out about materials will learn descriptive terms to describe objects and their properties and learn their suitability for purpose.


The children will continue have access to a wide range of colour banded books which they can choose and change within the classroom when they need a new book. We will read at least once each week as part of a guided reading session. During this time we will practise key skills to help develop fluency and a note will be made in their diary. Please make sure that your child is reading every day and that any reading completed at home is recorded in their reading diaries. 

PE lessons continue to be on a Tuesday afternoon, please make sure your child has a PE kit (indoor and outdoor) in school. Homework will be given out in Homework books on a Friday and to be returned by Wednesday.
