Class 6 Year 1 2019 - 2020

Miss Bond

Welcome back Class 6

Happy New Year! I hope that you have all had a lovely and restful Christmas break! We had a great first term in Class 6 and Year 1 and I hope you are all ready and looking forward to another exciting half term!

In English we will be exploring new stories and texts such as 'Sam and the Terrible Tiger' and we will look at some non fiction texts. We will be sequencing our sentences and start to form short narratives in our writing, ensuring we keep reading aloud to our friends in class. We will continue to write sentences using basic sentence punctuation and using capital letters for proper nouns.

This half term in maths, we will be looking at adding and subtracting numbers within 20. We will be studying and working with numbers up to 50. We will focus on counting and looking at different ways we can represent these bigger numbers. Later on in this unit, we will move on to focussing on measuring and comparing lengths and heights. We will also look at measuring and comparing weight and capacity.

During this half term, our focus will be science and begins with 'What makes our World?'. Class 6 will starting our work looking at everyday materials. We will explore these materials by studying them and exploring lots of objects and identifying, naming and describing their physical properties. We will be also be exploring materials further by conducting experiments in class. We will compare and group everyday materials and distinguish between an object and the material from which it is made through our experiments this term.

Our theme for RE this half term will be families and celebrations. We will get to know that we all belong to a family; how we love and care for each other; how Jesus belonged to a family; to know what it means to belong to our church family and to know what happens at a Baptism.

Just a reminder that PE lessons will be on a Tuesday afternoon and Homework will be given out on a Friday and to be returned by Wednesday.

Further details of our topics and objectives for this half term can be found in the attached Curriculum Map.

I am looking forward to this exciting new half term in Year 1!

Many thanks for your continued support.
