Class 8 Year 2 2019 - 2020

Mrs Steele

Welcome to Class 8's Home Page!

I hope you have all enjoyed the Summer break and are feeling refreshed and rested ready for the new school year.

We have an exciting half term together. Over the next few weeks, we will be looking at the story of Peter Rabbit. We will be focussing our writing on character descriptions using a variety of skills including capital letters, full stops and adjectives for description. We will also be looking at writing a non-fiction report about rabbits.

During our Maths lessons we will be deepening our understanding of numbers to 100. Withing this unit we will be looking at the place value of 2 digit numbers, comparing and ordering numbers as well counting in 2's and 3's. In unit 2 we will begin to look addition and sunbtraction within numbers to 100.

This half term our Science project will be  'Taking Care'. In this unit, the children will learn about how humans and other animals are born, grow and change, and what we need to survive and be healthy. The children will classify different kinds of animal babies, learn about the basic needs that are shared by humans and animals, and research the differing needs of animals within our care. Focusing their own experiences, children will explore the need for humans to eat a varied diet, to keep themselves clean, and to take regular exercise.

Our P.E day will continue to be a Tuesday, please remember your kits. Homework will be given out on a Friday and is due to be handed in the following Wednesday. Weekly spellings will be put into children's Spelling Practice books every Friday and will be tested the following Friday. It is very important that these are practised regularly alongside the Year 1 and 2 common exception words – a copy of which can be found in the ‘Files’ section of this page. Please remember to read with your child at least three times per week and record this in the Reading Diary.

Further details of our topics and objectives for this half term can be found in the attached Curriculum Map.

Many thanks for your continued support.
