Class 9 Year 2 2019 - 2020

Miss Mayers

Welcome to Class 9's homepage.

I hope you have all enjoyed the short break and are feeling refreshed and rested ready for our last half term together.

We have an exciting half term together. Over the next few weeks, we will be looking at some stories linked to our One World Week country which is Kenya. We will be reading stories associated with Kenya and our first story will be Lila and the Secret Rain. We will be focussing our writing on charcter descriptions using a variety of the skills we have learnt over the year, embedding the use of suffixes. We will also be describing the setting of each story as well as looking at writing a non-fiction report.

During our Maths lessons we will be looking at applying the four key operations. We will continue to apply and develop our skills through answering a range of reasoning questions. We will also be looking at telling the time to 5 minutes as well as length, height and weight.

This half term our Geography project will be  'Sensational Safari.' This project wil help to develop our knowledge of life in Kenya as well as  looking at the similarities and differences between the United Kingdom and a contrasting non-European country. It will be an exciting half term as we will be looking at a variety of different aspects, prepapring ourselves for our Chester Zoo trip where we will be trying to seek out the 'Big Five'.

Just a reminder, our P.E days will be on a Monday afternoon.

Homework will be given out on a Friday and is due to be handed in the following Wednesday. Weekly spellings will be put into children's Spelling Practise books every Friday. It is very important that these are practised regularly alongside the Year 1 and 2 common exception words. A copy of which can be found in the files section of this page.

Further details of our topics and objectives for this half term can be found in the attached Curriculum Map.

Many thanks for your continued support.
