Class 9 Year 2 2019 - 2020

Miss Mayers

Welcome to Class 9's homepage.

Welcome back!

We have an exciting half term together. We will begin the half term by learning the story of 'The Dragon Machine'. The children will continue to develop their own skills by writing their own descriptions. They will be planning their own version of the story, using a range of strategies. Then we will explore report writing through the text ‘The Tree Dragon.’ In our writing we will use familiar and new punctuation correctly as well as use expanded noun phrases to describe and specify.

During our Maths lessons we will solve problems involving multiplication and division. We will begin to recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 multiplication tables. We will begin to interpret and construct simple pictograms, tally charts, block diagrams and simple tables. As well as learning to ask and answer questions about totalling and compare categorical data. We will compare and order lengths, mass, volume/capacity and record the results using >, < and =.

During this half term Class 9 will be exploring the theme, ‘Shaping Up.’ We will be learning to identify and compare the suitability of a variety of everyday materials, including wood, metal, plastic, glass, brick, rock, paper and cardboard for particular uses.  We will also find out how the shapes of solid objects made from some materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching.

Just a reminder, our P.E days will be on a Monday afternoon.

Homework will be given out on a Friday and is due to be handed in the following Wednesday. Weekly spellings will be put into children's Spelling Practise books every Friday. It is very important that these are practised regularly alongside the Year 1 and 2 common exception words. A copy of which can be found in the files section of this page.

Further details of our topics and objectives for this half term can be found in the attached Curriculum Map.

Many thanks for your continued support.
