Governance

The Governor Body of St Mary’s has a key strategic role within the school. Working with the Head Teacher, it is the Governing Body’s responsibility to set the long-term strategic direction, aims and objectives of the School.

The Governing Body support and challenge the school’s senior leadership team. We play a crucial role in holding the Head Teacher to account for securing the best possible outcomes for our pupils. We act as a critical friend by challenging key decisions and asking pertinent questions to ensure the school maintains high standards of education.

Each governor has a link area within St Mary’s and regularly visit the school to look at the teaching and learning within this area in practice. These visits also include discussions with both staff and pupils and looking at pupils’ books and work.

It is always a pleasure to hear from the pupils themselves, the School Council attend our summer term meeting and tell us about their experiences over the year. This helps to validate the work we do and shows us that the School is serving its main purpose of delivering a broad and balanced curriculum to all our pupils in order for them to maximise their full potential.
