Mental Health & Emotionally Healthy Schools

Watch the video - Talking Mental Health is an animation designed to help begin conversations about mental health in the classroom and beyond.

As part of our Emotionally Healthy Schools initiative we have been talking about mental health, the children have taken part in assemblies about healthy bodies and healthy minds. They have looked at how to stay healthy and how to recognise when we need a little bit of help. With a focus on 'what to do if you are worried', we have talked about strategies we have in school to help.

Some strategies include:

yes Talk to an adult you trust - a family member, class teacher or any adult in school

yes Leave a note for your class worry monster (KS1)

yes Leave a note in the 'I wish someone knew' postbox (KS2)

yes Talk to our Learning Mentor or Younger Mind Counsellor

yes Discuss a referral to a specialist service such as CAMHS, School Nurse, Young Carers, Cheshire Without Abuse, Barnardos, Visyon and many many more

Parents! You can seek support for your child and family through Visyon....

"As a parent, it can be good to get advice from other parents to see what challenges they are facing and how they have dealt with situations in the past and that's where Parent Empower Hour comes in! The purpose of these hour-long group sessions (which will include tea and biscuits of course!) is to be the catalyst of conversations and support networks between parents whose children are experiencing emotional difficulties. This will probably include sharing stories, advice and knowledge but may just be a safe space to know that you're not the only one. Call Visyon on 01260 290000 for more information and to sign up to the group!"
